This year, the 16th edition of the Fête des Plantes et du Massif falls on the weekend of May 4 and 5. You will be able to admire Fontfroide Abbey like you’ve never seen it before! Between flower walks, conferences, exhibitions and events, these days are always full of discoveries. Another floral event not to be missed: the 13th International Orchid Festival on October 4, 5 and 6 at the same venue!

La fête des Plantes et du Massif May 4 and 5, 2019

Just 25 minutes from your campsite, Fontfroide Abbey welcomes you on Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5 for a major event celebrating flowers and plants: Fête des Plantes et du Massif ! Whether you’ve got a green thumb or not, these days, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, will be synonymous with learning, contemplation and pleasant strolls through the flower-lined avenues of Fontfroide Abbey. The program is particularly busy, with 4 types of activities on offer to visitors: walks to discover the flora and fauna of the gardens (including Natura 2000), conferences (on climate or how to care for your garden naturally), workshops for children (making bird feeders, glass painting…) and a variety of initiations (from tai chi to wood carving). Over the course of the weekend, you’ll discover a host of exotic and Mediterranean plants, and flowers whose scents and colors will perfume and enliven your walks around the magnificent Fontfroide Abbey. You’ll have the chance to stroll between floral displays and garden decorations, and chat with the event’s friendly exhibitors and artisans. You’ll leave with a few valuable tips for looking after your garden. Don’t hesitate to consult the 2019 program for the Fête des Plantes et du Massif to organize your visit.

International Orchid Festival #4, October 5 and 6, 2019

The International Orchid Festival, again at Fontfroide Abbey, welcomes orchid growers from all over the world. Every year, a new theme animates the event, and this year the chosen theme is: orchids and water. The organizers’ imaginations are sure to be put to good use, and the show promises to be one to remember! There’s no doubt that this event will enable you to find out more about the different species of orchid and how to care for them, which will be particularly useful if you decide to take one of these splendid flowering plants home with you. The sales exhibition will help you (re)discover the many species of orchid, from the simple phalaenopsis orchid (probably the easiest to care for!) to the miltonia, native to South America. Conferences, events and workshops for children will punctuate these three days (program to follow). A great idea for a family outing near your campsite in Aude and an excellent reason to visit Fontfroide Abbey.
