From the fine sandy beaches of Saint-Pierre-La-Mer and Narbonne-Plage to the family-friendly beaches of Leucate, Gruissan and Port-La-Nouvelle, here are just 5 of the most beautiful beaches in the Aude, less than 40 minutes from the 3-star La Pinède campsite in the heart of Cathar country.

1. Gruissan

The nearest beach to our campsite in Lézignan-Corbières is Gruissan, just 40 minutes away by car. The famous Aude resort is home to some of the most beautiful beaches on the Languedoc coastline, where the Blue Flag is flying. The Chalets beach comes to mind. With the La Clape massif as a backdrop, the setting is simply magnificent. The beach is large and pleasant, and there’s plenty to do on the water: swimming, paddling, kitesurfing, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, kayaking…

At the foot of the Massif de la Clape, Plage de Mateille is one of the wildest beaches in Gruissan, nestled in the heart of a natural site classified by the Conservatoire du Littoral. For those who wish, there is an area reserved for naturists. On the way to Port-la-Nouvelle, behind the Saint-Martin salt marshes, Vieille Nouvelle beach is also one of Gruissan’s finest beaches. The sand is fine and soft, with a gentle slope for swimming: perfect for families!

2. Narbonne-Plage

Make the most of your stay campsite near Narbonne to take a dip on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. Direction Narbonne-Plage! After crossing the listed natural site of La Clape, you’ll discover a five-kilometer long sandy beach stretching from Gruissan-Plage to Saint-Pierre-sur-Mer. People come here to swim, practice their favorite water sport or stroll along the 2.5 km-long promenade.

3. Port-La-Nouvelle

Less than 30 kilometers from Narbonne Port-La-Nouvelle is also a favorite sandy spot for Aude campers. With no less than 13 km of beach, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to putting down your towel and planting your parasol. The seafront beach is very popular with families, as it is supervised in summer.

4. Leucate

From Port-Leucate to La Franqui, via Leucate-Plage, an endless ribbon of sand awaits you, with its beach clubs, seafront promenades, famous pontoon and water mirror. The campsite’s favorite? The Coussoules beach at La Franqui! This little jewel on the Aude coast is an irresistible invitation to laze and swim under the Midi sun. Also worth a try: Galion beach, Plagette, Briganti beach andAnse du Paradis.

5. Saint-Pierre-La-Mer

In the commune of Fleury, the small family resort of Saint-Pierre-La-Mer boasts a large sandy beach bisected by the rock of La Batterie. On one side, the beach stretches to theEtang de Pissevaches, one of the last Mediterranean lagoons, and on the other to the Port Brossolette at Narbonne-Plage. A sure bet for sea bathing and water sports enthusiasts.
