10 km from our campsite, Homps is a small village known for its port on the Canal du Midi and its pleasant pleasure lake, Lac de Jouarres. This small commune of 700 inhabitants, between Corbières and Minervois, knows how to share its taste for life, leisure and wine with visitors. Homps, where the whole world comes to think, live and breathe vacations. The commune was a crossing point on the tin route in the 3rd century BC. On the border between the Corbières and Minervois regions, Homps was a stopover on the Roman road. A former commandery of the Hospitaller order (1183) can be admired here. An important site for wine transport on the Canal du Midi, today the village lives to the rhythm of its port and its yachtsmen.
Don’t forget to stop by the Maison des Vins du Minervois on the port, home of the famous Cru, which offers a selection of the best wines, renewed each year, to discover the know-how of the Aude winegrowers and take home with you a little of this terroir and some memories. Around the charming port and the passage of pleasure boaters, you can rent a boat, discover the Canal in a gabarre, a boat once used to transport goods, or take a bike ride…
Cross the famous blue footbridge and follow the path for 1.7 km to Lac de Jouarres. Enjoy a relaxing day at this leisure center. Fishing, picnics or barbecues, canoeing, sailing…there’s plenty to do.
