The high season is coming to an end and we would like to thank all our campers for their stay in the Aude which should leave them with superb memories of their vacation in Occitanie. But for those of you who have chosen September for your well-deserved vacation, you can rest assured that the good weather has not said its last word, and the sun will always be out to accompany your many outings around the campsite. September being the month of the European Heritage Days, we can’t resist giving you a few ideas for cultural outings in the Aude.

Castle life in Cathar country!

Your camping holiday near Carcassonne will be the perfect opportunity to visit the medieval city (less crowded than in summer) and its château comtal. Take advantage of the European days on September 21 and 22 to discover the many Cathar castles not far from the campsite, such as the impressively restored Château de Villerouge-Termenès, and the four castles of Lastours, standing on their rocky outcrop in the commune of the same name. The remains of a rich and eventful history will be revealed to you during a guided tour. If you’d like to find out more about Cabaret, Tour Régine, Surdespine and Quertinheux, the next guided tour will take place on September 12 (please arrive at reception at 10:30 a.m.).

Culture in September #in Narbonne

The city of Narbonne also has many treasures to reveal to curious visitors of all ages. During Heritage Days, Fontfroide Abbey will be won’t be doing things by halves. For the occasion, it will open its private rooms, and host musical entertainment as well as a photo workshop (Saturday, September 21) to learn how to properly photograph such prestigious monuments as the Cistercian abbey. Just the thing to enhance your photos of your camping vacation in the Aude! The highlight of the show? No doubt at 9:30pm, when Fontfroide Abbey lights up for a marvellous sound and light show. Don’t leave Narbonne without exploring the underground galleries of the Horreum Museum, a mystical (and refreshing in hot weather) place that was once used to store foodstuffs. As for the Palais des archevêques de Narbonne, do we need to boast about its incredible architecture and magnificent stained-glass windows to convince you to make a detour?

Take part in the fête de la Gastronomie in Bize-Minervois – September 15

What would culture be without nature, and what would nature be without gastronomy! A cultural holiday in the Aude is not just about exploring its beautiful landscapes and abundant flora, it’s also about“tasting the Aude“, whether through its vineyards or its succulent local produce. Good news: that’s what the the Fête de la Gastronomie in Bize-Minervois on September 15 from 11:30 a.m.! Come and taste Bizois products in a friendly atmosphere just 20 minutes from the campsite. Between goat’s cheeses, Médoc wines and the region’s delicious olives, this day promises pleasant tasting moments in the heart of the pine forest during your camping holiday in Aude .
